ICSU submits position paper to the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development
The position paper, prepared by the Science and Technology Major Group for the 2018 HLPF, gathers inputs from nearly 60 authors from ICSU member and partner organizations.
The International Council for Science, together with the International Social Science Council (ISSC) and the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), is organizing partner of the Scientific and Technological Community Major Group at the United Nations. In this capacity, ICSU coordinates inputs from the scientific community into the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF). This is an annual event organized by the United Nations where all nations of the world meet to review progress on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The HLPF will take place 9-18 July at the UN headquarters in New York. Its theme for 2018 is “Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies.” Progress on six SDGs will be reviewed: water and sanitation, energy, cities, sustainable consumption and production, terrestrial ecosystems, and means of implementation.
The Science and Technology Major Group position paper for the 2018 HLPF gathers inputs from nearly 60 authors from member and partner organisations such as the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO), Future Earth, LIRA 2030, the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), the Stockholm Resilience Center, the InterAcademy Partnership and others. The document will be made available on the UN website and a summary of the paper will be included in the Major Groups’ and stakeholders’ official contribution to the meeting.
